After I came up with a list of the critical Wordpress plugins for every new blog, I started thinking that it would be easier if they were all available in one place. This particular set was spread out on 11+ different sites. Instead of sending you all over the internet to get them, I decided to collect the files and make them available in a centralized location.

The download is a .zip file which contains all the plugins as .zip files as well as a Read Me file. Before using the plugin files, you’ll have to unzip the download. You can unzip them all on your computer and upload, or some hosts (e.g. Dreamhost) have the option of uploading .zip files which will then be unpacked. Remember to upload all of these to your site’s wp-content/plugins/ directory.

These are all .zip files and can be uploaded to your blog however you generally go about uploading them. Some hosts allow you to upload them in .zip format (Dreamhost, for example) and others require that you open them on your computer before uploading the folders. They should be uploaded to your wp-content/plugins/ folder.

The Contact Form can be downloaded from the url below or from the best plugins page. It’s unfortunately too big for this download file.

Akismet should be included as part of your Wordpress installation. If it wasn’t, you can download it here: http://akismet.com/download/

For some plugins, I recommend 2 good options. In that case, both are included in this file and clearly named so that you can choose which one you want for your site.

These plugins are just as I downloaded them from their respective sites, though I may have changed their .zip names to avoid confusion. Any errors in the .zip (not that I think there are any) are in the official downloaded copy. Most are intended for the latest version of Wordpress, though many are backwards compatible. If you don’t have the latest version, try the sites listed above for older editions.

These were downloaded on 10/6/08. I’ll update that date if I update the file. Wordpress has the option to automatically update the plugins in 2.5 and higher, so an old plugin should update without any hassle.
