Cropping within MSPaint is probably even easier - once you have your screenshot pasted in, select a tool other than the 'select' tool. This should unselect your screenshot. Then look for the handles in the middle of each edge of your picture. Click and drag these inwards to crop.

Notes:
- if you don't unselect by choosing a different tool, dragging the handles will squash your image rather than cropping it
- to crop the top or left of the image, simply flip or rotate it until the desired edge is at the bottom or right
- you can check on your image size in pixels by viewing its attributes (on the 'Image' menu in Vista, not sure about the Windows 7 version)

@gjunkie Rename the folder as well as changing the title in style.css, then download Wordpress again and just copy over the default theme folder into your site's Wordpress folder. That should make it think that you have created a whole new theme instead of changing the existing one.

Thanks for the tip! I'm having a problem, though. I used the default theme as a starting point, but whenever I try to change its name wordpress goes crazy and it crashes. How do I change the name of the default theme?

gjunkie’s last blog post..James Cameron’s Avatar News Roundup
